One of my favorite travel traditions is packing something small but meaningful in my suitcase wherever I go — my University of Michigan Flag.

Over the years the maize and blue have traveled with me to glaciers, volcanoes, ancient ruins, safaris in Africa and even Antarctica.

This page collects the stories of where the Michigan flag has shown up around the world.

Because one thing I’ve learned along the way is this:

Go Blue travels well.

🌎 Equator Edition – Ecuador

Standing with one foot in each hemisphere… and a Michigan flag.

⛰️ Machu Picchu Edition – Peru

The day the Michigan–Ohio State rivalry almost got me arrested.

🌋 Galápagos Edition – Isabela Island

Planting the maize and blue on top of a volcano.

❄️ Antarctica Edition

Michigan at the bottom of the world

🦒 Tanzania Edition – Serengeti Safari

Even on safari, the maize and blue make an appearance.
