Our trip began with a small travel miracle: three of our four flights arrived within ten minutes of one another, at three consecutive gates—A3, A5, and A7.

Considering we’d all come from different places, I’m still amazed. If only coordinating the rest of a group trip were that easy.
We arrived with visions of Rainbow Row, the Battery, and leisurely historic sightseeing.
Charleston responded with rain.

So the four of us adapted—as seasoned travelers do—with a leisurely Southern lunch, an afternoon sitting and chatting in one hotel room, and dinner at a place called Well Hung.

Because why not?? 😂
At lunch, I ordered a Cobb salad. Very sensible. Then came my first biscuit of the trip, with warm honey butter.
OMG.
Suddenly, Rainbow Row had competition.
We haven’t all been together in over a year, so we had plenty of catching up to do. Charleston’s historic sights could wait. The conversation couldn’t.
Today, we finally went sightseeing, starting with a tour of Charleston’s historic Reform synagogue, Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim. We visited the gardens, sanctuary, social hall, and museum. It was fascinating—a wonderful way to begin our day.

Naturally, all that history made us hungry.
Our next stop was Hyman’s Seafood, where we tried hush puppies and fried green tomatoes with grits before moving on to salmon and Chilean sea bass croquettes.
Another OMG.

Properly nourished, we walked through the City Market on our way to Palmetto Carriage Works, where Elliot and Buster took us on a one-hour historic carriage ride around Charleston.

Then we walked along Bay Street to the waterfront to see the Pineapple Fountain and Rainbow Row. Turns out, we could fit in both the sights and the bites.

Charleston did not disappoint.
Tonight, we have another much-anticipated dinner reservation. Stay tuned. We may need to shop for bigger clothes tomorrow!
Technically, we did tour Charleston. We just toured it one restaurant at a time.
